Meet your Ft. Lewis Vice Chair Chapter Lead Julie Huỳnh.

Though almost always busy with her full-time job at MKTG managing experiential marketing events and business opportunities for her corporate clients in Washington State and Oregon, Julie volunteers as a guide and mentor to Green Beret families during deployment transitions and other times of need. She serves as the Vice Chair for the Fort Lewis Chapter of the Green Beret Foundation’s Steel Magnolia sorority, and aides the GBF’s Next Ridgeline Program, helping current and former Green Berets successfully make the transition into the civilian workforce. She continues to perpetuate the ideals of female strength, endurance, and adaptability by incorporating Steel Mag ideals in both her professional and personal life.

Julie's journey is a special one. On September 21, 2013, at the age of 27, Julie Huynh lost her fiancé, SFC Liam Jules Nevins in a “green-on-blue” insider attack at FOB Lightning in Gardez, Afghanistan. Liam, a Special Forces communications sergeant assigned to B Company, 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), was killed while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Julie’s life changed forever that day. And though her continued journey without Liam has been extremely challenging, the unceasing support shown to her by her brothers at the Green Beret Foundation has helped her cope with the loss of Liam and assist her in continuing to live her life to the fullest adventure. Julie is tremendously grateful for the support of her Special Forces Family, without whom she wouldn’t have the strength she has today; she believes it is her duty to give back to the community that gave her so much when she needed it the most. As love would find it's way, it did again with Shane whom she met skydiving. Shane is a GB, 18 Sierra with 19th Special Forces Group. They married in March of 2017 and are enjoying new adventures and explorations when he's in country.

In her little remaining free time she enjoys teaching snowboarding to under-privileged inner-city youth, training at Krav Maga Seattle or grabbing the best bites in Seattle.

We are thankful to have our amazing, strong Steel Mag Julie on the leadership team.
